You've probably seen and heard the commercials offering free credit reports but which websites are really free?
Comsumer reporter John Matarese says people still complain about being taken for a ride when it comes to those free sites.
So just in time for back to school John Matarese has a quick refresher course in free credit reports 101.
The official website for a free credit check is annualcreditreport.com.
But he says to be careful when searching for free credit sites. He says when he did a search several popped up which can be very misleading.
Certain imposter sites include: freecreditreport.com which can cost you $12 a month. Another site charges users $29 a month.
He says to remember that most sites that advertise a "free credit report are not free.
